Roof Insulation: Stay Warm and Save Cash

This article is very helpful most especially in areas where Winter is coming up.  When it gets cold outside, we need to maintain heat inside the house and as much as possible maintain the heating bills at a minimum.  Here is where home insulation comes in.

Below are some of the tips provided in Laura Firszt’s article:

Maintenance

add insulation to your atticMaintenance among all things is always the basic thing to remember.  A roof in good shape requires regular inspection and immediate repairs.  If there are any roof red flags, this should be attended to as soon as possible.

“Cold” vs “Warm” Roof Space

After ensuring regular maintenance of your roof – next thing to do is to choose between a cold and warm roof space.  Things to remember here is that cold roof space is advisable if you live in a part of the country that has severe winters.

Blanket Insulation

As stated, this is the most common method of insulating a cold roof space and it would be best to hire a roofing contractor to do the job for you.  While this is one of the most common methods, there is a more environmentally friendly alternative which is using a sheep’s wool.

Spray Foam Insulation

Spray foam insulation may be used for both cold and hot roofs. Same with blanket insulation, have your roofing contractor check your roof before this procedure is done.  Although unlike the other options, with spray foam, the residents would need to evacuate in the interim that this procedure is being done.
